Frank Schaeffer spent years as an evangelical activist pushing the right wing version of “family values.” These weren’t really family values at all but rather an anti-feminist agenda. In fact the far right opposes family togetherness by opposing child care, day care, working mothers, a high minimum wage, access to contraceptives and the right to choose. The white evangelical church has went way off the deep end. It is astounding to me that 85% of them, including many in my own family, voted for Trump. What Bible are they reading? Most of the evangelicals who voted for Trump do not actually read the Bible and the very few who do ignore much of what it says. The left wing, however is equally lost. They have, for the most part, thrown the Bible away. Often they read the Bible when they were younger, found parts they do not agree with, so threw those parts away. Equal to the right wing, the left wing simply ignore parts of the Bible. There are solutions in the Bible for the world’s many problems, but neither the right or the left are finding those solutions.
