Karla was 14 when she was almost killed in Honduras for refusing to join a gang. Her story is the story, not if Biden got a bed ready for her in time or this is a “crisis.” She’s going to survive only if she stays. Make it happen!
There is no “border crisis.” There is suffering.
News outlets are utterly uninterested in the stories of the migrants themselves. This is wrong because it fails to provide the only crucial piece of the puzzle: the concrete context of human pain. Compassion is the answer now.
As León Krauze points out in the Washington Post, “The numbers don’t lie. Corruption and climate change have made life extremely difficult for thousands of people in Central America’s Northern Triangle. America’s disengagement from the region has made matters worse.” We can help and must. America can do this. Step up! People from Guatemala Honduras El Salvador don’t migrate ‘in search of a better life.’ They’re looking for a shot at survival.
Republicans are lying. Fox is lying. America CAN care for these suffering loved ones without any problem-if we think of their need. Trump’s cruel policies designed by the unapologetic racist xenophobe Stephen Miller hardened our hearts. It is time to see the children at our border as people again, not as problems.
Do NOT ignore the despair facing thousands of families who, under the direct threat of violence or abuse, chose to push their young children to the United States, in a last ditch search for safety. If they meet love it will be a glorious moment in US history.
If the alternative for FOX News commentators was famine, gang violence, kidnapping, rape or sexual slavery for their kids, wouldn’t they too bet it all on the journey north?
Receive these children with LOVE.
