Evangelicals are now pro-COVID death

August 9, 20203 commentsFrank Schaeffer

According to latest Pew poll, 82% of white evangelicals STILL say they intend to vote for Trump. At least all other Americans now know who wants to trash America in order to hold onto access to corrupt power. Bluntly: Evangelicals are now pro-COVID death.

White evangelicals will support Trump – again – not in spite of who he is, but because of who he is. Evangelicals also believe in bullying, a vengeful God, angry vengeful husbands, and submissive wives and daughters. Trump’s a bully’s bully and a misogynist revenge addict. He’s their man.

Trump inaugurated the complete fusion of white evangelical Christianity and fascist politics, even as white evangelical Christianity continues to decline as a share of the national population. He’s a 19th century-style con-man. They are backward, racist throwbacks. It’s a union made in the hell of un-reason, ego and (deserved) inferiority complexes they share.

If Trump loses, white evangelical Christianity has made plain what the majority of its believers pledge allegiance to, and it’s no longer to The United States of America. Make no mistake; Evangelical Trump voters have divorced America and yet if Trump loses they (like Trump) will stalk and threaten her for decades with the violent anger of an abusive ex-husband.

Caught between the beauty of his grandchildren and grief over a friend’s death, Frank Schaeffer finds himself simultaneously believing and not believing in God—an atheist who prays. Schaeffer wrestles with faith and disbelief, sharing his innermost thoughts with a lyricism that only great writers of literary nonfiction achieve. Schaeffer writes as an imperfect son, husband and grandfather whose love for his family, art and life trumps the ugly theologies of an angry God and the atheist vision of a cold, meaningless universe. Schaeffer writes that only when we abandon our hunt for certainty do we become free to create beauty, give love and find peace. Available now at Amazon.

In 1998, Frank Schaeffer was a bohemian novelist living in “Volvo driving, higher-education worshipping” Massachusetts with two children graduated from top universities. Then his youngest child, straight out of high school, joined the United States Marine Corps. Written in alternating voices by eighteen-year-old John and his father, Frank, Keeping Faith takes readers in riveting fashion through a family’s experience of the Marine Corps: from being broken down and built back up on Parris Island (and being the parent of a child undergoing that experience), to the growth of both father and son and their separate reevaluations of what it means to serve. Available now at Amazon.

I never in my life thought I would see the mentality among Christians that made Jim Jones ‘s cult possible. I was wrong. These people aren’t looking for morality or godly character, they’re looking for someone to excuse them for acting out their basest behaviors, approve of their ignorance, and make them feel “superior” to everyone else.
American Christians wouldn’t know Jesus Christ if he walked up and introduced himself, and if he came preaching the same message he did 2000 yrs ago, they’d be howling for his blood and crucifying him all over again.
