Want real change? Then the left not just the right needs to change its mind. For the left it’s easy to go after pro-cop Republicans but be silent about Democrat Party political leaders and union officials who enter into collective-bargaining agreements that shelter racist sadist cops. Derek Chauvin with his knee pressed down on Floyd’s neck, had at least 15 complaints against him closed without discipline. Had it not been for police union collective-bargaining protections he would have been fired long ago.
Anyone who watched the video of Floyd’s death knows that the cops involved should be in prison. But the head of the local police union Lt. Bob Kroll defended the officers as usual.
Democrats need to admit it: not all collective bargaining power for unions is a good idea. If we want to eliminate violent police sadists from the force we need to eliminate collective-bargaining protections shielding sadistic cops. The left needs to deal with this. Police violence is also a union power problem. This is as much a Democrat problem as a GOP problem. Democrats have opposed union reform so police union subversion of human rights is not just a GOP problem. Duke Law Journal examined police union contracts “a substantial number unreasonably interfere with effectiveness of mechanisms designed to hold police officers accountable.” Democrats need to admit: Not all unions are good.
