‘SOS from the Kids’ is a call to act for the climate crisis, written by 12 year old Simeon and his mother Dorry. ‘SOS from the Kids’ have performed this song to politicians and policy makers and at many Youth Strike For Climate events.
Hundreds of schools kids in the UK joined them to sing the song for the Global Climate Strike on 20 Sept 2019. David Attenborough wrote to thank them for their activism. His letter says, ‘Thank you for all you are doing to help tackle the problem’.

A bit about the song ‘SOS from the Kids’ was written after Sim and his brother Noah (14), learnt about humankind’s destruction of nature at school…
The boys came home telling their mother about the number of trees cut down per day, the state of the insects and the amount of energy and resources that are consumed to make a t-shirt. Watching David Attenborough’s ‘Climate Change – The Facts‘ alerted them to the crisis this destruction was causing.
Being a musician, Sim’s mother Dorry started writing a song about this realization she was seeing in her children. She did her own research and was convicted to make changes in her own life.
Sim immediately took interest in the song his mum was writing. He asked to sing it, but it didn’t have words yet, so he suggested some and started re-phrasing what she’d begun to write to make it, ‘how he would say it’. Dorry says, ‘the lyrics of this song are very much pointing at me’, I, as an adult, need to “change the story”.

We’ve left a legacy that my kid’s will bear the consequences of. As I care for my grandchildren during the COVID-19 isolation we are singing this as our anthem of HOPE! JOIN US!
This song is a wake up call to myself and all “grown ups”. The song started as a way to channel one family’s feelings of despondency into something proactive, something that has hope and that other people could join us in.’
Before the isolation of COVID-19 Simeon set about inviting his cousin, Coen Baines, and friends to record the song with him and Noah helped capture what they were up to on film. Sim, Coen and four friends first sang the song to politicians at an important climate meeting at Hampshire County Council in July’19.
Afterwards, one of the politicians posted on Facebook about the impact their singing had on himself and the politicians who had gathered to vote. Encouraged by this response, the group sang at school, at church and on BBC Radio’s ‘The Early Late Show’,Radio Solent. Following this, they sang alongside Johnny Flynn at Extinction Rebellion’s October protest in Trafalgar Square. They put out a request on social media, calling kids to join them the following day for a big “Sing For Climate” alongside XR families.
