  I have to weigh in constantly with Frank Schaeffer. I too see the distorted and twisted values of my fellow Christian friends. What disturbs me most is the straight out ignoring and abandoning of the Christian morals that has been taught to all of us. A microcosm of this example is highlighted by the disgraceful incident that occurred at the right to life march in Washington DC. Nick Sandman is guilty of a punk prank by his bully tactics of blocking the path of Native American Indian Nathan Phillips, who is clearly outnumbered by the gang of Covington Catholic High School Maga Hat wearing droogs. Then these teenage luminaries realize that Phillips is not wearing a Maga hat. So what do they do? They start to taunt him probably because he doesn’t look like them and is probably an immigrant, by shouting “build the wall.” Yet here is one inspirational patriot in the name of Nathan Phillips. He is a veteran of the Vietnam Nam war and was visiting DC on a peaceful mission. I would bet my bottom dollar that before this incident he had to endure some form of bigotry. Yet these Maga hat wearing fascists ignore the ironic fact that their orange idol is a cowardly unpatriotic draft dodger. I wanted to check to see if the Statue of Liberty is still standing because I would not have been surprised me if she collapsed in a rusted ruin from the tears she must be
  shedding. So what is the result of these narrow visioned punks calamity? Do you think there was any attempt at reconciliation? Do you think they could have admitted to their transgression and asked for forgiveness? How about a show of sincerity and reparation by making a donation to Phillips cause? Turn the other cheek? NO WAY! Sandman’s parents sue the Washington Post for $250 million dollars because their precious son who was acting like a punk was the centerpiece and deservedly so of unflattering press. Guess who cheered them on? The great orange scourge himself. I mean after all, don’t we have to do everything to discredit all the estates of Democracy, except of course the administrative estate while the orange anti-Christ presides there. Thank God the judicial estate stood by its standards and rightfully rejected the case. Of course there will be an appeal. Enough to make you wretch. 250 million dollars?!!? I fear that the democratic estates of the legislature, the press and the judiciary are constantly under siege. I fear for the ideals of this country. I know ultra conservative Catholics who dislike the Pope. These fanatics do not like his stance on immigration (abandoning the lessons of love of your neighbor). They are peeved at his moral stance on protection of the environment that was so clearly stated in the Pope’s encyclical. They turn a blind eye to his humanitarian team work with Obama to open a path of detente of travel and tourism to Cuba. Now the Trump administration in a shallow and flagrant act of pettiness and vindictiveness toward everything Obama good bad or indifference has shut down that humanitarian policy. On this issue alone, I ask myself why isn’t there an outrage. Doesn’t history recollect that in as little as less than 60 years ago Cuba and the United States was within a divine intercession of obliterating each other in a nuclear holocaust. And now Cuba, that previous to the oppression of Communist rule, was a predominantly Catholic country is blockaded from the very alliance both need. What particularly irks me about the “morally correct” Catholics who voted for Trump is their ignoring of all the other alarming intransigences of Trump. He never had the conviction of being anti-abortion, he merely adopted it to politically pander to these religious fanatics. I was taught that the devil will mix righteousness with deceit to gain the upper hand. And now these pro-life Catholics want every pregnancy to come to term and then what? I looked into Sister Tess’s beautiful brown eyes and she sadly stated that now these right-to-lifers abandon the social responsibility of these babies. I had a conservative Catholic friend who would not join me in attending a social justice rally. These downtrodden Americans are working 3 jobs, are the victims of wage theft and still cannot make ends meet. Do you think under this situation that they would be thrilled with another child? You want to see a religious moral bond? I am a blessed and proud godfather to my beautiful niece. When I think of the honor that was bestowed upon me, it renders me into a sappy old man. I could bust my buttons. I take very seriously the role of moral mentor to my goddaughter. Without much inspiration from me, she is a loving mother, wife and step mother. She is a devout Catholic who supports Trump because she believes he is righteous in his anti-abortion stance, and a successful and wealthy businessman who can straighten out the country’s economy. After I had read the Mueller Report I asked her what she knew about it’s conclusion. I was in disbelief. She honestly thought the report fully exonerated Trump. I thought to myself she must have seen him on TV proclaiming his innocence. And then the other thought followed. A lie will travel half way around the world before truth can even put on its shoes. So Mr Schaeffer you say there is a lunatic fringe among the evangelicals that is dangerous to Democracy? I say I wouldn’t bet the house on the proverbial evangelical fringe horse, the Catholics fringe will give you a race for your money. Photo finish? There are times I feel lost and despondent. Friends and families complacency alarms me. Yet I am retired, and maybe a little removed from the all consuming mundane tasks of daily living. I understand, but they have to vote against this immoral leader of ours and getting that commitment is sadly questionable. So I need to know that there are sane people like Frank Schaeffer and I need you to find the strength to never waver and to always fight. I pray for you. I pray for my friends and family and I pray for this country. I also pray that more and more good people will stand up against this disgraceful scourge in the Oval Office. I cannot be convinced otherwise that these are not truly frightening times.
