If you want the State of Israel to have American support 10 years from now you’ll side with Omar and her right to speak her mind. The bullying US Israel Lobby is turning off an entire generation of Americans to Israel by making support for Israel into a Republicans-only issue.
“Republicans gleefully trying to accuse all Democrats of being anti-Israel are wrong, and, worse, risk hurting the U.S.-Israel relationship for the sake of scoring political points; and by his conduct in joining forces with a racist right-wing party and in getting tangled up in a corruption investigation, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu makes it harder for Americans of all political views to support the democratic government of Israel. In courting Trump so assiduously and seeking American help to preserve his government, Netanyahu risks alienating the American left even further” (Jennifer Rubin Washington Post).

Dear Frank Schaeffer:
Even when your own representative has a point, you scarcely whimper support! Compare your words with those of Socialist Equality Party writer, Barry Gray:
‘In a revolting spectacle of hypocrisy and reaction, the Democratic leadership in the House of Representatives pushed through a resolution on Thursday condemning remarks by Minnesota Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar critical of Israel and the Israel lobby in the US, branding her statements as “anti-Semitic.”’
Grey continues:
‘With this vote, the Democratic Party has capitulated to and joined with the Republicans and right-wing forces internationally in prosecuting a witch-hunt against a fabricated growth of “left-wing anti-Semitism.” Media commentators prosecuting the attack on Omar specifically and repeatedly associated her supposed anti-Semitism with the influx of younger Democrats running as “progressives” into the Democratic House caucus and the supposed anti-Semitism of the British Labour Party and its leader, Jeremy Corbyn.’
Of course this ‘left-wing anti-Semitism’ Grey quotes refers to anyone further ‘left’ than the right-wing Democrat Party will endorse.
If you won’t fight for your own, you certainly won’t fight for the 90% which is the working class.
I’m wondering if there will BE a Democrat Party in 2021.
A blessed Lenten walk with Christ!
Frank, I agree with your perspective of Rep Omar’s position. And while taking a strong g stand in issues such as these is mandated, bullying in any for should not be. It is the bullying in any issue that I would speak against – and expect from our representatives, as well – when working through issues. Bullying on any side of any aisle should be stopped.
