The roars of approval Trump received from his enabler-Republican lawmakers during his State of the Union is all you need to know about why the Republican Party — as it is now – must be to be utterly destroyed in 2020. The word euthanized comes to mind.
In democracies, sick political parties usually need years in the wilderness before they can heal. Let’s send all Republicans on a nice long vacation in 2020 to ponder their support for the lying sociopath they foisted on us.
“Trump’s presidency has become to the Republican Party what Vietnam was to President Lyndon Johnson,” Jonathan Rauch and Peter Wehner write in the NY TIMES. They are right. The Republican gamble that the party can ride out the Trump/white evangelical theocracy era without suffering tremendous damage is looking worse every day.
The white evangelicals are in fact all that’s left of the GOP base. They abandoned their core commitments to conservative principles and even to basic decency. Republicans and evangelicals were willingly hijacked by a seedy failure of a man and reality television star. Trump replaced Jesus and Lincoln as their ideal. Thus, “The most disappointing — development of the Trump era is not the president’s own election and subsequent behavior; it is the institutional corruption, weakness and self-betrayal of the Republican Party,” as Jonathan Rauch and Peter Wehner note in the NY TIMES.
Scandals and corruption besiege Trump on every side. But that’s not the big story. The big story is that Trump helps the worst actors in the world – the fossil fuel pimps and other billionaires — wreck our one and only earth. Only white evangelicals think this ecological Armageddon is a good thing. You see, they believe that we are in the “End Times.” So to them all bad news is a good news harbinger of the “return of Christ.” This belief makes evangelicals the most dangerous people on earth; dangerous to the earth itself and all who dwell thereon.
The Trump paradox is that his support deepens among his most persistent white evangelical admirers– even as it erodes everywhere else.
Good news: two thirds of America is sane!
Bad news: the dumbest cultists in America (the white evangelical deluded) still have their man running the show. By consolidating behind Trump, the evangelical-dominated Republican Party has isolated and alienated itself from the broader public. It has let white evangelicals write policy and appoint judges, and encouraged egomaniacal billionaires treat the rest of us as their personal piggy bank.
The evangelicals rape the earth for Jesus while the billionaires rape the earth for profit. This symbiotic relationship spells death for America, our planet and our democracy.
An insane, mentally defective, white evangelical, far right third of America presently governs the other sane two-thirds of us with an unpopular agenda, a lying fool for a leader and a Twitter account. This must end in 2020 with the utter liquidation of the insane religious right and a reform of the tax system that abolishes the earth-destroying billionaire class altogether.
Take hope! Trump’s hard-core evangelical and conservative Catholic base is large enough to dominate the Republican Party, but it is NOT large enough to dominate the country forever. Republicans lost significant ground among everyone except Trump’s core base of rural, evangelical and “non-college” dumb racist supporters. So this is no time to compromise with the Trump underbelly of America. These losers are literally destroying the entire planet by supporting Trump. And we must banish them from power over us.
Trump’s Gallup approval rating among Republicans is almost 90% and has never dipped below 80%! Translation: these are real cultists and totally delusional people. And Trump’s followers are mostly white evangelicals- proof positive that white evangelicals are the primary threat to American democracy and the health of our home planet. They must have their power eliminated in 2020.

Dear Frank Schaeffer:
Most people were sane in 2016, but the whole ruling class is rotting on its feet. Taking one look at the candidates offered, the sane 54% refused to vote.
Your call amounts to the substitution of one ruling class faction with another. That accomplishes nothing.
You illustrate the Democrat Party separation from the overwhelming majority of the people, the 90% which is the working class. To make pretense of supporting ‘democracy’ under such conditions falls as flatly on its face as did Dagon.
You simply refuse to take even the slightest action, refuse the quietest whisper of support for the working class. That’s why you’ve lost them.
We know what Donald Trump is, although you refuse to name his worst crimes. How could you? Trump as much as Hillary Clinton is a war criminal.
Your elections represent a false choice. Can you offer a solitary reason why the population should recognize such ‘elections’ as legally binding on the 90% whose interests are systematically precluded from civic discourse? Why should anyone believe otherwise?
Blessings!
People who criticize the Democrat Party as being just as corrupt as the other party reveal an appalling ignorance of their duty and responsibility to change the course of politics in this country; they do a disservice to the many honest and decent Democrat representatives serving in the worst historical period of this country.
In every county in every state there is a meeting of the local Democrat group representing the grass roots of the Democrat Party.
If you don’t go there every month and advocate your ideas for positive change then shut up.
Dear G. S. Stewart:
There is no obligation to support the lesser of two evils. Of course this is a horrifying proposition, because it predicts the defeat of your petty-bourgeoisie position. That is precisely the intention.
Far from being ‘unsophisticated,’ this strategy intentionally forces social democrats to decide between the bourgeois [Republican] and the working class. Until you get this right, the working class — which Democrats abandoned long ago — will be delivered defeat after defeat after defeat after defeat after defeat.
There have been powerful strikes — teachers, autoworkers, steel workers, It’s happening across the country [to say naught of the world]. What did Democrats do? They ran ‘Remember in November’ campaigns. Well guess what! It isn’t washing!
And those strikes are barely beginning. I hope to see tens of millions, and then hundreds around the world, and at home.
In the 2016, 46% voted. Subtract spoiled ballots, Libertarian/Ripon/Constitutionalist/Green/American Way/Socialist Equality Party ballots and spoiled ballots, and you probably have about 44% of eligibles actually voting. Divide that 44 between the two bourgeoisie parties and you get a ‘government’ supported by slightly more than 1 in 5.
Marx gave us the invaluable insight that under the Capitalist system societies are organized into three classes — owners, investor/bankers, and workers. The first two ally to form the ruling class.
The working class gets no representation.
The 90% is going about to force its way into the public arena, to put forth its own program and demands. And why shouldn’t it! The working class can be represented ONLY by the working class!
So before going off about ‘appalling ignorance’ or dereliction in duty, you might consider the possibility that at leas some ‘critics’ know exactly what they’re doing.
So you’re going to have to make a choice. Bourgeoisie or proletariat — which will it be, G. S.?
Epiphany Blessings!
PS: ‘Honest’ and ‘decent’ democrats will affirm that there is zero potential for change through official channels. Musical congressional chairs has all the social purpose of the Estates General in 1789.
