“Climate delayers aren’t much better than climate deniers,” says Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. She’s wrong: The delayers are far worse. They know better but lack the guts to take on true evil. Thank God for the younger people like AOC and the Sunrise movement ready to try and save our future.
As noted in a Sunrise movement post: “Both parties have failed our generation, and have continuously put the interests of the fossil fuel billionaires over protecting our air/water/homes.” Warmed-over Obama-era environmental policy: respect for the Paris climate accord, a mid-century conversion to renewable energy bla-bla-bla is not enough! My older generation have ZERO moral authority on climate issues. We did NOTHING! More power to the young Green New Dealers!
Youth carry the moral authority on climate change. It’s they who will reap the whirlwind my generation sowed. So please older establishment: just shut up about the Green New Deal being “extreme.” You’d be making radical proposals too if your entire life was on the line.

The time has come for us (we in the USA) to realize that pollution and the death of man is a global, international concern. A concern that, as we take on our part of the global responsibilities of managing climate change and the pollutants at its root, we must also engage, and viably so, the other countries and people’s of this globe to do their part. Without full participation and commitment of all peoples on this celestial ball in this endeavor, the struggle is doomed to be a long, and quite possibly failed, enterprise.
How, then, do we engage all countries in this?
At the federal building, yesterday in downtown Seattle the sunrise group held banners and visited the offices of Senators Cantwell and Murray urging them to co – sponsor the Green New Deal senate Bill.

Two factors lie behind Ocasio-Cortez’s sudden rise to political prominence.
One is her nominal association with socialism. It isn’t so, but an unrelenting diet of reactionary politics lets anyone using ‘progressive’ talk to pose as a supposedly ‘GENUINE’ alternative.
Second and more decisive, the Democratic Party and media elevate Ocasio-Cortez, and INTENTIONALLY promote that FALSE supposition.
That provides ‘cover’ for the Democrats’ own brand of reactionary politics.
Together, those points seek to block any genuine movement against social inequality and capitalism.
Ocasio-Cortez can call for increasing taxes on the wealthy to 70% — with complete confidence that we will never return to taxation levels of the 60sor 70s.
O-C belies her ‘socialist’ bent by citing the UK her model of ‘socialism.’ Britain is the most unequal country in Europe. A fifth of the population live in poverty! And she calls her policies, ‘radical!?!?’
Karl Marx was a socialist. He wrote that ‘to be radical is to grasp the root of the matter.’ The essence of Ocasio-Cortez’ proposals ever OBSCURE the root of the matter — CAPITALISM!
A. O-C never addresses the social or historical foundations of what she criticizes. She never will. Her rhetoric and policy proposals only scratch the surface.
A wave of worker militancy is sweeping the globe. The Republican AND Democrat sections of the ruling class are TERRIFIED of losing their social privilege.
And they should.
The working class must NEVER fall for the lie that any section of the ruling class represents it.
A. O-C’s 70 percent tax rate increase on the wealthiest means the oligarchy that spent decades rolling back taxes and amassing wealth never seen in world history — will freely return part of that wealth. Democrats and Republicans who gave trillions to the banks after the 2008 crash must return that to finance a rebuilt America with cutting edge, green friendly technology at the cost of scores of trillions.
As soon as youths hear that, they know that NEITHER party will agree to this. That is why the Democrat Party is desperate to claim the ‘socialist’ mantle — lest the GENUINE article be discovered.
For precisely that reason, the most important political task is the publication of the socialist platform for the youth of today and tomorrow.
