Note to young white males: When you wear a Trump hat to an anti-woman rally you are making a statement. Expect to be taken seriously. Trump hats put you on the side of white nationalist racism, misogyny, and climate change denial. These are adult crimes. Someone should have told you.
What kind of school sends male teens in Trump hats to take part in a rally to take away women’s rights then is shocked that these young men don’t stay out of trouble and become lightening rods? Note: Wearing a Trump hat is to disrespect all women and all minorities. Period. Expect what you get.
A group of young white males wearing Trump hats to a political “Pro-Life” rally dedicated to taking away women’s rights is not an innocent gesture. The Covington boys were supporting an admitted abuser of women who shut down our government because he’s a racist. Not kid’s stuff.
Sarah Sanders, the White House press secretary, said the White House had “reached out to the Kentucky students and voiced our support.” What is Trump “supporting?” Rudeness to elders? Hate in general? Roman Catholic theology and the right of bishops to shape anti-woman laws?
Memo to “pro-lifers”: You do your cause no good when you send out young males wearing Trump hats. Evangelicals destroyed their brand by identifying with Trump. If pro-life means pro-Trump, you’ve lost. A white male wearing a Trump-the-molester hat is an F–You to all decent Americans.
The context of what happened to white boys wearing Trump-the-abuser-of-women hats is not the story. Who got yelled at first isn’t the point. To wear a Trump hat to an anti-woman rally is to declare war on most of America. Don’t play innocent.
Hitler Youth were “just foolish kids” too. The moment those boys put on Trump hats they might as well have draped themselves in confederate flags and then expected to be treated as “just kids” when rallying to deny women their right to abortion. Get real, “pro-life” movement. Don’t play innocent, let alone play shocked. A Trump hat is now a symbol of hate. It is an in-your-face confrontation, right up there with toxic masculinity on display when moronic thugs do “open carry” stunts at political rallies.
When Roman Catholic schools send boys to represent them in their fight to take away women’s rights, then those boys put on Trump hats they should expect to be taken seriously. They just declared war on women and decency, identifying with an abuser who brags about assaulting women.

Mr. Shaffer, your article is very much on Point to what many are missing. Those young CHRISTIAN MEN☹️ were there to start trouble – no matter who started the shouting. Like a Swastika band on the arm, The Red MAGA hat – in today’s volatile atmosphere – means the same thing, HATE.
Indigenous people are marginalized by society and definitely by the racist republicans in political power. If a private religious high school buses students to Washington DC to protest women’s rights, shouldn’t they be taxed? There church and school is exempt under current law but if they want to get political there should be a price!
