The question about abortion that always came up was “What about rape?” Now the symbolism is too awful to pass up: An alleged rapist and serial molester becomes the deciding vote on the Supreme Court to deny all American women the right to abortion.
Credible accusations of sexual assault, lies told under oath, explicitly partisan attacks on the senators trying to assess his fitness to serve: None of it was enough to give Republican leaders more than momentary pause.
Mitch McConnell openly refused to allow President Obama to fill a court vacancy for a year, holding the seat open to get the votes of far right evangelical voters who want to establish theocracy. They elected a serial woman molester Republican president who appointed an alleged rapist to the court.
We have a new justice, tainted by dishonesty, shamelessness, self-pity, indifference to women’s fears and calculated divisiveness and—rape. He’s the poster boy, in other words, of Trump’s own politics, personality disorders and serial proclivity to abuse women, the truth and our nation.
Having already fatally infected the White House and then Congress, the terminal cancer of Trumpism is about to spread to the Supreme Court. Game over. Will you stand and fight?
America is facing the future of three or four decades of a justice credibly accused of attempted rape, who is the deciding vote to overturn Roe v. Wade. We are in to “Handmaid Tale” territory and then some. You couldn’t make this up.
We face: 30 to 40 years with a justice who lies, so injudicious in his manner that thousands of law professors, and a retired Supreme Court justice, opposed his confirmation, a political hack appointed by a serial woman abuser to usher in an era of anti-woman, anti-minority, and anti-gay theocracy that will make the Salem witch trials look like a church picnic.
Only Lisa Murkowski of Alaska had the courage of her convictions. She can go home knowing that she did the right thing. History will not be so kind to every other Republican Senators.
Every decision of political significance against women, minorities, gay people rendered by a 5-to-4 majority that includes Kavanaugh will be the product of bias and personal vengeance. Kavanaugh will become to women what Stephen Miller is now to brown people and immigrants: a one-man lynch mob.
Most Americans do not support Trump, do not approve of relentless lying hatred, do not have total disregard for the integrity of our democratic institutions. And we have the power to call our government to account in this election. Those who do not vote are traitors. Period.
Trump’s view is that judges should be agents of those who appoint them. Kavanaugh’s angry, emotional testimony was aimed at one man-Trump. It carried this message: “I am one of yours!” It was right out of the Trump playbook and it worked.
“Poisonous is the man. Poisonous is Trump’s inability to abandon mob incitement as his mode of political operation. Meanness is how this man gets his kicks. Always was, always will be” (Roger Cohen NY Times).
The president either ennobles Americans or degrades us. There’s no escape from Trump’s poison, other than to vote Trump out. Getting rid of this lying abusive hate-monger begins with the November election. Stand, fight, organize, donate and vote!
Trump won in 2016. He is winning again now bringing America down to his level of lie-based fiction masquerading as reality. We’ve stepped out of our lives through his “reality” TV looking glass and all the moral, decent and common sense sign posts are gone.
Trump to sexual assault victims: I got away with it and so do all my guys. If the powerful can find a way to not take your claim seriously, we will. We can do anything to you.
All you need to know about Trump’s white evangelical base is this: Lisa Murkowski’s Facebook page was flooded with rape threats and accusations after ‘no’ vote on Kavanaugh. Republicans act like a white thug lynch mob– because in 2018 they are one.
