Frank, blame the shooter in Vegas. I am not responsible. My firearms are not responsible. Roy Moore and his pistol are not responsible. Trump and the NRA are not responsible. The writers of the US Constitution, who wrote the second amendment, are not responsible. Only the Vegas shooter is responsible for his actions, assuming he did this on his own. I am not willing to give up my guns just because someone else uses guns wrongly. Just as I am not willing to give up my car because someone tries to run people over with their car.
John, if you want to live in a country where people are not allowed to be armed, maybe you could move to one. You are not going to disarm American citizens, however much you might want to.
Gary, I’m a Christian conservative. A life-long Republican. I’m very pro-2nd ammend.Nobody is demanding your pistol. We are saying, can we find the moral middle ground here? Nobody uses automatic weapons for anything but mass murders.
No, I have no responsibility for the Vegas shooting whatsoever. I’m sorry it happened, but I had absolutely nothing to do with it. The fault lies on those who planned and carried out the shooting, and I’m not one of them.
By the way, I had nothing to do with hurricane Maria either. Or the Mexican earthquake.
Actually Bryson .. if you’re one of those in support of more liberal gun laws following in lockstep to the tune of the NRA , Gun Lobby and Arms Manufactures who’s sole agenda is the filling of their own back pockets … the blood of Las Vegas lies firmly upon thy hands … with the ” damned spot ” being unremovable unless you somehow come to your senses .
Assuming you actually own and use guns as you claim … you of all people should be able to recognize the simple fact that ;
Had the gun restrictions pertaining to semi automatic / assault weapons etc as well as the conversion kits ( which can be purchased online as well as at the majority of gun shops across the US ) of the 70’s still been in force ;
The death toll would of been ten or less with the wounded well below a hundred . Rather than the current 59 dead with well over 500 and still counting wounded
As for your pathetic attempt at presenting an argument in defense of guns . Circular Logic verging on the inane and irrelevant is being too kind
FYI; As a Reminder … former NRA member in good standing … decorated marksman/sharpshooter .. having grown up around and shooting guns since the lat 50’s
I’m reminded of Mike Huckabee’s book: God, Grits, Guns and Glory. Wasn’t that it? How anybody in his/her right mind can put those words in the same sentence is beyond me.
Just shows how racist many in America truly are,they rather have a reality show host for President!Young people too lazy to vote,old white people making America great again, since when was this country great?????
Sigh .. too true for the most part as the Collective Stupidity of America reigns supreme across the land .
As for the ‘ great ‘ bit . Politically ? Equal rights ? Never ! But financially post WWII when everyone else across the world’s infrastructure was in ruins and we were the only game in town … from 1946 to approximately 1966 .. at which point we allowed our delusions of American Exceptionalism along with our over inflated egos to color our judgment allowing the rest of the world to catch up …. and then surpass us
So suffice it to say the only way Herr Drumpf can hope to in his and his less than 30% supporters minds … Make America Great ‘ Again … is to create another world war while somehow keeping it off our shores . e.g. Aint a never gonna happen .. regardless of what Bubba and Dora May hope and pray to their ” Small Metal Gods ” for
And sigh .. as for how many racists ? Between the blatant , closet , white privileged and unaware … far too many … in fact I’f I were to hazard a guess … a healthy majority
Frank, I certainly agree with you about the Republicans and all others who have an obsession with guns. Somehow I can’t imagine Jesus carrying a gun and yet 81% of Trump’s voter base belongs to the far right Christian conservatives. I admire Martin Luther King, Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi and all the others who have espoused peaceful resistance. I also follow Chris Hedges. I have followed you and your family for 40 years. I’ve read most of the books written by them and by you. Your parents’ books were on the library shelf at the church we first attended when we moved to this state. I will never vote for a Republican. Since the Tea Party Republicans took over and ousted the RINO–actually the real Republicans–they should represent no sane peaceful person and certainly don’t it seems. I don’t want a right-wing Christian theocracy because there is nothing Christian about it. I certainly didn’t vote for Trump. But then I didn’t vote for Hillary either. I would have voted for Bernie had he not been cheated out in the primary. I’m old enough to have seen it all. And I watched as the emails were leaked by Wikileaks exposing the corruption of the Democratic Party. And it wasn’t a state government that leaked them. I agree with the Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity on that matter. Blaming the Russians was a distraction. And still is. I know you are supporting the Democratic Party but I don’t want a far right wing Zionist group running our country either as it has for so many years. When Hillary announced that she was for the State of Israel, she lost me completely. Bernie was more reasonable even being a Jew to support both Israel and Palestine. But that’s another matter.
But back to the argument about guns and the shooter and our right to carry a gun. I abhor all the shootings that have happened over the past few years. Sandy Hook was heart rending as have been so many others. I question whether this is really about guns. I’ve made my point above about my position on guns. We should be asking instead was the shooter on any type of medication that could have sent him on this shooting spree? Others have been but no one talks about it. His brother seemed completely taken aback by his behavior. Let’s look deeper for the answers. And why all the anger in the posts and the name calling. We should grieve for the lost both now and in the past. And look for a solution that does not involve buying more guns.

Gary, if you don’t read the article, at least check out the first graphic at this link:
https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2015/12/4/9850572/gun-control-us-japan-switzerland-uk-canada
The UK and Japan aren’t even on the chart, their gun homicide rates are so (relatively) low.
Peace, love and beauty…

Sorry, Gary your dead wrong. All of society has to share the blame. Life is not an Ann Rand disfunctional philosophy.
Greg, You can feel guilty if you want, but I had nothing to do with the shooting. Neither did any of my friends.
Bryson … hate to be the bearer of bad news but .. if you genuinely feel no guilt nor feel any responsibility there are only three choices
1) You have zero sense of culpability *
2) You’re a bonafide psychopath
3) Due to either substance or mental handicap you’re completely out of touch with reality
4) You’re a mindless sycophant having bought into the rhetoric of the NRA / Gun Lobby / Arms Manufactures
5) Be it thru the likes of Ayn Rand etc you’re deluded into thinking you’re some kind of Ubermensch and above it all
But suffice it to say regardless … the blood of Las Vegas stains your hands whether you recognize it or not
* If #1 or #5 then negate any possibility of your being anything so much as resembling a Christian as without it there is no forgiveness to be had
Mea culpa .. meant to type Five choices not three

JT,
I have let my NRA membership lapse, but I intend to renew it! If you want to learn the safe use of firearms, the NRA can teach you.
