How to understand the Roy Moore “win”?
While Rousas Rushdoony and my dad Francis Schaeffer, are virtually unknown outside Christian right-wing circles, their teachings, co-opted by those with political agendas like Roy Moore, have taken on lives of their own.
Fueled by the political writings of Rushdoony and the social activism of my dad (Schaeffer), and energized by the Supreme Court’s 1973 decision in Roe v. Wade, Jerry Falwell and Tim LaHaye launched the Moral Majority in 1979. That same year, Beverly LaHaye started Concerned Women for America as a biblical counterpoint to the National Organization for Women. Since then the Christian Right has seldom looked back, even as it has taken on wildly apocalyptic overtones.
Now Bannon cashes in on this 40 years curve of hate for the government…and we get Trump, then Moore and ALL of this is fueled by white evangelicals….

I would love to see Roy Moore in the Senate and see if he really means what he says, or if he will sell himself to the Establishment.
We can’t afford to take that chance, people are suffering.
Gayl, Why don’t YOU and Frank help them?
Mr. Roy Moore doesn’t even know what DACA is. Hard to sell out when you don’t even know what are the issues of the day.
Don’t remember if I commented on your creativity before. First of all, love your Pinocchio Trump paintings! They feel great visually and I really appreciate the symbolism explanation. Still wish you had a bigger platform or more invitations for media shows. You need more consistent exposure because of your connection and understanding of the psyche of the religious right. I don’t think regular people realize what a dangerous combination mr. “4th Turning” Bannon and the Religious Right are. The general public seems oblivious and/or simply take their lives “as they comfortably are” for granted…… kind of like the indifference of the 1930’s Germans. You do have the bonafides to address the concerns regarding this destructive movement. Thanks!
thank you
Frank,
What you say makes quite a bit of sense, but I look at it from another angle. Why was it so important for the Republican establishment to try to stop Moore? I think it’s because while they try to string religious conservatives along, they have no intention of implementing their ideas if it gets in the way of the interests of the wealthy and big business. Every time I saw a negative ad about Moore, obviously dishonest, I felt like saying, “I have to send Moore some more money,” though I am a liberal. I would at least like to discuss the real issues rather than passing over them in silence as I think the Republican establishment wants to do. I think I still have quite a bit of influence from your father. I want “antithesis.”
Ted, I agree with you about the Republicans. The Establishment controls the Republican party, just as it does the Democrats. That is why Frank’s claim of an impending “theocracy” is such nonsense. There aren’t enough Roy Moore types in Congress to make that happen. Moore, if he does not sell out, will be a problem for the Establishment.
