I’ll try and be brief here. Love your passion, Frank. You converted me when I saw you give a fiery talk in the Portland Oregon seminar of “How Should We Then Live?” way back when. I moved on from my fundamentalism from your talk, you influenced me that much. As now a progressive, liberal Christian, I have evolved to similar spiritual values as your own. But I am also mellowing in my vehemence against the “other side”, i.e. evangelical/fundamentalist Christianity. Evangelicals are definitely a mixed bag. I have huge problems with their mindset, especially since they are often wedded to an inerrant Bible. But really does a heavy-handed response against them make sense and move us forward? I believe progressive Christians are all about non-violence and promoting peacemaking. Certainly there is a fine line between acquiescing and compromise but maybe what the world needs are more compassionate voices helping to bridge the gaps.
